40 years ago, the “Libertine Sadomasochism Initiative” was brought to life through a founding announcement. Since then, we stand for openness, the exploration of SM and fetish topics, the expression of personal thrills and kinks, the breaking of taboos, and, above all, for the diverse erotic culture. We are celebrating this anniversary of the Libertine—to the best of our knowledge, the oldest pansexual, German-speaking, openly visible SM initiative—with a major exhibition. And we ask ourselves—40 years after its founding—what has become of the ideas of the past and what the challenges of a “Libertinage” in the 2030s will be.
